Aqua Facial, HydraFacial or HydroBoost: What's the Difference?
Aqua Facial, HydraFacial or HydroBoost – what's the difference and which treatment is right for dry skin, enlarged pores and glow? A comparison from Frankfurt.

PDRN is one of the strongest trends in aesthetic skincare right now – celebrated in Korea as a "glass skin" ingredient and often over-hyped on social media. But what's actually behind it, what does PDRN do for your face, and how do you tell marketing from real effect? Here's the honest take from Frankfurt.
In short: PDRN is highly purified DNA fragments discussed for regeneration and skin quality. The best evidence is for medical injections – in a beauty studio, the topical route as an upgrade is the clean choice. At Sahel Beauty we combine PDRN with our HydroBoost (€139) into a Summer Recovery upgrade for glow, a hydrated feel and sun-stressed skin (+€29–49). No filler, no medical treatment.
PDRN stands for polydeoxyribonucleotide – small, highly purified DNA fragments, in the literature usually derived from fish sources (often salmon). In the aesthetic world the term often appears alongside PN (polynucleotides), c-PDRN and hydrolyzed DNA. These terms are used close together in marketing but are not always scientifically identical.
For you, the key point is this: it depends on the delivery form. A topical PDRN serum is not the same as a medical PN injection – even if both carry "PDRN" in the name. This very blurriness is what drives so many exaggerated claims online.
The mechanism most often described in research combines two ideas: activation of so-called adenosine A2A receptors and a "salvage pathway" that supplies cells with nucleotide building blocks for repair and regeneration processes. In experimental work PDRN is associated with fibroblast activity, matrix processes and inflammation modulation, among others.
For the cosmetic application, that translates into the following expectation:
Important and honest: much of this comes from preclinical data and models. Biological plausibility is not the same as proven cosmetic effect for every serum in everyday studio use. That's why we deliberately phrase things by outcome ("looks fresher") rather than medically ("heals" or "repairs").
This is the part usually missing online. A systematic review of PDRN skin application describes the evidence as heterogeneous and mostly low to moderate quality – with repeated signs of improvement in texture, elasticity and hydration, but nothing miraculous.
Realistically expected:
Not expected (and not promised by us):
In short: PDRN is an interesting, modern ingredient – but not a miracle. That's exactly why we position it as a premium care upgrade, not a medical procedure.
Sun, heat, cabin air, air conditioning and leftover SPF take a toll on your skin. It then quickly looks tired, dull, dry and more sensitive. This is where a skin-recovery approach comes in – and PDRN fits the theme well: UV stress, a weakened barrier and regeneration are exactly the keywords discussed in PDRN research.
Honest framing: there is currently no strong, controlled human study specifically on the "after-sun facial" indication. So the summer story is indirectly plausible, not directly proven. For you that means: a high-quality, soothing glow upgrade for sun-stressed-looking skin – communicated as care, not therapy.

The evidence is clearly stronger for injectable PN/PDRN procedures than for topical serums. But those injections belong in a medical setting – not a beauty studio. For a non-invasive summer upgrade, the topical route is the clean, safe choice.
| Delivery form | Expected effect | Evidence level | Downtime | Setting |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Topical PDRN serum / ampoule | glow, hydrated feel, calmer skin sensation, "skin quality" | low for classic studio topicals | practically none | beauty studio (cosmetic upgrade) |
| PDRN microneedling | more penetration, stronger regeneration story | limited; stricter hygiene & product requirements | mild redness 1–2 days | only with a validated, sterile product |
| Injectable PN/PDRN mesotherapy | more progressive improvement of texture, fine lines, skin density | low to moderate, but stronger than topical | 1–3 days (papules, redness) | medical setting |
At Sahel Beauty Frankfurt we work with the topical variant as a cosmetic upgrade – no needle, no downtime.
Our HydroBoost (60 min, €139) already delivers deep cleansing, hydration and instant glow. PDRN adds exactly the note that matters in summer: skin recovery, a calmed skin feel and after-sun care. That's why we offer PDRN not as a brand-new treatment but as an upgrade – low barrier, minimal downtime.
Here's how HydroBoost Summer Recovery works:
Price logic: since the HydroBoost base price is €139, we add roughly +€29 to +€49 for the topical PDRN summer upgrade. That's deliberately well below an invasive injection session and positions the upgrade as what it is: high-quality seasonal care.
For context: Sun-stressed skin benefits, according to dermatology bodies (e.g. AAD), above all from consistent sun protection and deep moisturising care. PDRN here is a care upgrade on top – not a replacement for SPF and not a medical treatment.
The Summer Recovery upgrade is for you if this sounds familiar:
Safety first – in these cases we don't treat, or only after individual consultation:
When in doubt we clarify this beforehand in the Consultation & Skin Analysis (30 min, €49).
Transparency is part of how we work. You see these claims a lot online – we deliberately avoid them, because for cosmetic care they are neither proven nor permissible:
Instead we say honestly: with us, PDRN is a premium cosmetic upgrade for a fresh, smooth and hydrated-looking complexion – not a medical or healing treatment. This expectation management is exactly what separates serious care from social-media hype.
